Will the report viewed tracking only work if it is sent out using your email system?

No. The Report Tracking can also track emails sent from applications like Gmail or Outlook as long as you add a variable required at the end. The tracking of the report read event works based on a variable. So all you have to do is append “?referrer=email” at the end of the audit report link when sending out emails that you want to be tracked.
